Overview
Drive System Design is a global engineering consultancy specialising in electrified propulsion and actuation systems, working across automotive, commercial vehicle, off-highway, aerospace and defence sectors from technical centres in North America, the UK and India. This Chief Engineer will lead the business’s largest and most technically and commercially complex motor design projects, holding project director accountability to the board and overseeing simulation, design tooling and technical output across multiple motor topologies and industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the business’s largest projects, including those with new technical and commercial challenges, holding project director accountability to the board
- Oversee simulation techniques and design tools across a range of motor topologies for different industries and applications
- Approve technical reports and project deliverables that reflect DSD’s expertise and quality standards
- Generate and implement initiatives that improve cross-functional operations and business strategy, and identify new technical capability for the company
- Act as a stakeholder in the EP function’s quality system, developing technical and procedural capability
- Build and maintain strategic client relationships, with key account responsibility for revenue in the role holder’s sector
- Own complex programme proposals and business development activity, representing DSD at technical and commercial forums
Requirements
Essential: extensive experience developing motor and generator systems across at least two of automotive, aerospace, off-highway, commercial vehicle, defence, clean energy or marine; strong competency in electromagnetics, structural and thermal physics, with the ability to optimise these attributes across applications; expertise in motor engineering software including MotorCAD, Maxwell, Creo, UGNX, Catia, Matlab/Simulink, Altair and Ansys mechanical/thermal packages; ability to assess supplier capability and hold suppliers accountable to performance expectations; experience managing large, multi-person, multi-discipline projects through full development cycles to successful technical and commercial outcomes; a bachelor’s, master’s or PhD in mechanical or electrical engineering with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
