Overview


Drive System Design is a global engineering consultancy specialising in electrified propulsion and actuation systems, working across automotive, commercial vehicle, off-highway, aerospace and defence sectors from technical centres in North America, the UK and India. This Senior Engineer will solve complex transmission and driveline problems at component and system level, working across DSD’s own projects and embedded within customer teams, with the initiative to manage tight deadlines and translate customer needs into high-performance design solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use simulation techniques and design tools to design, develop and prototype transmission, driveline and actuation systems
  • Take responsibility for the delivery of technical work packages and whole projects
  • Apply experience in specifying materials, processes and design suited to component function
  • Manage own and others’ workload within small to medium sized projects
  • Interpret customer requirements to generate specification and requirement documentation
  • Generate robust virtual and physical validation plans to confirm designs meet requirements
  • Embed within customer teams and work across customer functions and suppliers to drive actions
  • Take ownership of proposals and quotes from initiation through submission with the client
  • Present influential technical material independently to peers, customers and technical forums
  • Support technical capability initiatives within the Mechanical Engineering function
  • Undertake short and long-haul travel on behalf of the company where required

Requirements


Essential: degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline; proven experience of transmission and driveline mechanical design and/or analysis; a track record of successfully managing and delivering transmission and driveline projects or sub-systems; experience with CAD systems or analytical packages; strong leadership and problem-solving skills; ability to adapt delivery style to present complex information clearly, tailored to the audience; flexibility to work at customer locations.

Desirable: experience with OEM vehicle programme gateways, DFMEA, DVP and release processes; experience of root cause analysis and leading problem-solving taskforces; awareness of the commercial approach of a consultancy business.
