Sr Mechanical Engineer, HV Charging & Power Electronics

Company: Lucid Motors

Location: Newark, CA

Employment type: Full-time

Lucid is recruiting a senior mechanical engineer into its High Voltage Design team to lead development of the power electronics that shape charging performance, efficiency, cost and reliability across future Lucid vehicle platforms. The role covers the full path from concept to production and focuses on onboard chargers, DC-DC converters and HV junction boxes. It suits an engineer who enjoys first-principles problem solving and wants ownership of a product through supplier reviews, validation and launch.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical architecture, packaging, integration and validation of onboard chargers, DC-DC converters and HV junction boxes
  • Balance electrical performance, mechanical robustness, manufacturability, cost and serviceability in system-level designs
  • Run supplier technical reviews, DFMEA reviews, tooling reviews and production launch activities
  • Design, build and test prototypes, and define environmental, vibration, thermal shock, temperature cycling, ingress protection and durability testing
  • Drive design changes from test results and real-world feedback
  • Work with electrical, quality and manufacturing teams, mentor junior engineers and lead internal design reviews

Requirements

Essential

  • Ideally 3 to 6 years of relevant experience, with all levels considered where technical proficiency is strong
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline
  • Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals and creative problem solving
  • Experience packaging complex electromechanical assemblies with thermal, structural, electrical isolation and manufacturability in mind
  • Experience developing liquid-cooled power electronics assemblies, including cold plates, thermal interfaces, heat spreaders and coolant sealing
  • Understanding of HV design, including insulation systems, creepage and clearance, grounding, shielding and HV safety
  • Strong 3D CAD skills (CATIA or similar), GD&T and creepage and clearance principles
  • DFM and DFA experience across injection moulded plastics, sheet metal, die castings, busbars, gaskets, adhesives and PCBA-integrated assemblies
  • Root cause analysis experience, such as 8D

Desirable

  • Automotive engineering and product validation experience, such as environmental and shock or drop testing
  • Experience designing HV power electronics such as onboard chargers, DC-DC converters, inverters, HV junction boxes or battery disconnect units
  • FEA experience (Ansys or similar) for structural and thermal analysis
  • Experience supporting APQP, PPAP, DFMEA and production launch
  • Experience working directly with automotive suppliers and contract manufacturers
