Head of Battery Programs

Overview

Ten-Nine Technologies researches, develops and manufactures advanced battery materials from its Tulsa, Oklahoma base, with its flagship TENIX® drop-in cathode additive designed to unlock better performance across battery chemistries. The Head of Battery Programs is a critical leadership role directing technical strategy, ensuring data integrity, and driving team execution across all cell development projects, bridging hands-on engineering with executive decision-making and interfacing directly with customers and cross-functional leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Executive Reporting & Strategic Communication

• Curate and deliver executive-level reporting across all team projects, elevating major achievements and critical roadblocks requiring strategic decisions
• Analyse data across multiple initiatives to highlight high-level conclusions, systemic trends and strategic technical direction
• Act as the primary conduit for technical insights, questions and key milestones between Cell Development, Business Development, Executive Leadership and external stakeholders

Project Accountability & Technical Oversight

• Plan, prioritise and allocate resources for all experimental trials, including formulation, cell construction and testing protocols
• Review, edit and create advanced analytical charts and technical analyses to cross-check errors and ensure data quality and consistency
• Review comprehensive reports alongside Project Leads, auditing experimental variables and evaluating data quality, variability and statistical significance

Team Leadership & Operational Management

• Conduct regular technical and personal check-ins with direct reports, providing feedback and supporting professional development
• Monitor team-wide workload balance, stepping in as a cross-project technical resource on high-priority tasks
• Conduct formal performance evaluations, set operational expectations, and manage promotion or corrective recommendations
• Oversee laboratory environments for safety and effectiveness, verifying equipment is maintained and scalable for forecasted capacity

Commercial & Cross-Functional Partnership

• Provide technical expertise to Business Development during client acquisitions and partnership strategy sessions
• Interface directly with active and prospective customers on trial execution plans, technical feedback and test results
• Provide validated technical conclusions and data-driven content for marketing collateral, reviewing final materials for technical accuracy

Requirements

Essential: master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related technical field; 10+ years of relevant experience in battery technology, energy storage, advanced materials or a closely related field, including significant experience leading technical teams and development programmes; strong understanding of battery materials, cell chemistry and electrochemical datasets, with the ability to translate results into clear conclusions; proven experience managing and mentoring scientists and/or engineers, including setting priorities, allocating resources and driving accountability across multiple technical programmes; a collaborative, solutions-oriented leadership style.

Desirable: advanced electrochemical data analysis, visualisation and interpretation capabilities; exceptional technical leadership, communication and interpersonal skills; experience with cathode active materials, cathode additives, and/or advanced lithium-ion chemistries; experience working in a fast-paced R&D, startup or commercialisation environment; familiarity with scaling battery technologies from laboratory experimentation toward commercial application; experience supporting customer-facing technical programmes or joint development projects.
