
MAN’s eTGX connects to a dedicated MCS charging point at the heart of the new charging system

MAN Truck & Bus introduced the next generation of its eTGX battery-electric tractor unit at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover, lifting maximum range to 720 kilometres and usable battery energy by 10 per cent over the outgoing model. The reveal sits alongside confirmation that MAN’s Megawatt Charging System trucks are now reaching customers, and a new Beyond Diesel strategy report quantifying the total cost of ownership case for fleet electrification.
New eTGX battery lifts range to 720 kilometres
The redesigned eTGX extends its front section by 120 millimetres, using EU length allowances for zero-emission vehicles to improve aerodynamics and driver visibility. Combined with a new battery generation offering 10 per cent more usable energy and up to 20 per cent higher recuperation, MAN says the truck runs up to 3 per cent more efficiently than its predecessor.
A standard 4×2 tractor unit with six battery packs and 552 kWh of total capacity now reaches up to 660 kilometres. The 6×2 variant, fitted with a seventh battery pack for 644 kWh of capacity, extends that figure to as much as 720 kilometres without an interim charge. Unladen weight for the 4×2 tractor stays at 10.7 tonnes, keeping payload capacity at up to 25 tonnes with a standard trailer, comparable to a diesel equivalent.
MAN eTGX charging time falls under 30 minutes
Megawatt Charging System technology reached series production at MAN’s Munich plant at the end of July, and eTGX and eTGS trucks fitted with it are now reaching customers. At up to 750 kW, the system takes a six-battery eTGX from 20 to 80 per cent state of charge in under 30 minutes, inside a driver’s mandatory break.
At the IAA stand, MAN and charging partner Milence are running live MCS demonstrations in Hall 14/15 throughout the show, alongside new eTGX test drive slots directly outside Hall 11, a first for the event.
Full electric portfolio and the Beyond Diesel business case
The eTGX joins MAN’s eTGL, eTGM and eTGS ranges on full display together for the first time, forming a complete electric portfolio spanning 12 to 50 tonnes across urban distribution, municipal and construction applications. All four ranges share MAN’s modular commercial-vehicle battery technology.
A newly published Beyond Diesel strategy report puts a figure on the payoff for early movers, citing total cost of ownership advantages of up to 13 per cent over five years when fleets combine depot charging with on-site solar and storage. The report draws on three operating fleets, including Austria’s Schlager Transport Logistik, which already runs a 50 per cent battery-electric fleet supported by roughly 765 kWp of photovoltaic capacity and 1.6 MWh of battery storage at its depot.
Two near-production TGE vans, developed with Swiss partner Flux, covered the van side of the stand, built for emergency services and municipal fleets needing higher gross weight, all-wheel drive and electric power take-offs. The demonstrator carries a 119 kWh battery for up to 480 kilometres of WLTP range.
MAN and its partners are committing €700 million worldwide to the dealer and service network over the coming years, to expand capacity as more electric trucks enter service. Customer feedback on the Flux-developed TGE demonstrators will keep shaping next steps for electrifying the van range beyond the current eTGE lineup.
