
Range Rover Electric enters production at Solihull with an 800-volt architecture built for fast charging

Range Rover has opened order books for Range Rover Electric, the brand’s first battery electric model, built alongside petrol, hybrid and mild-hybrid variants on the same line at its Solihull plant. Twin 260kW motors produce up to 542hp and 627lb-ft of torque, with an EPA-rated range of up to 333 miles. An 800-volt architecture with split-charging supports a 10-80% DC charge in around 22 minutes.
Range Rover Electric’s 800-volt architecture powers fast charging
The car is powered by a usable 118.5kWh lithium-ion double-stack battery built from 344 prismatic cells. The 800-volt architecture, paired with split-charging, allows a 350kW public DC charger to take the battery from 10% to 80% in roughly 22 minutes, or add up to 125 miles of range in 10 minutes at peak charge rate. JLR’s ThermAssist thermal management system optimises range, charging speed and battery longevity in extreme temperatures, adding up to 25 miles of range and cutting heating energy use by 40%. In North America, the car ships with NACS compatibility and access to the Tesla Supercharger network, alongside an optional home charger for scheduled off-peak charging via the Range Rover app.
Traction management keeps Range Rover Electric off-road capable
Integrated Traction Management controls motor speed within 50 milliseconds and manages wheel slip around 100 times faster than a combustion-engine equivalent, while Intelligent Driveline Dynamics distributes rear torque from 0% to 100% to prevent loss of traction. A new Single Pedal mode allows drivers to pull away smoothly on inclines up to 33 degrees or complete a rolling climb up to 45 degrees, and the car retains Range Rover’s wading capability of up to 35 inches. JLR says the car has completed the equivalent of 38 times around the world in physical testing and more than 250,000 hours of virtual testing, including cold-weather trials in Arjeplog, Sweden, heat testing in Dubai and all-terrain testing at Eastnor Castle in the UK.
Range Rover Electric production anchors solihull investment
Range Rover Electric is built at Solihull, where JLR has upskilled 9,000 manufacturing employees for electrification, with a further 1,500 trained across its wider West Midlands operations. Production draws on JLR’s Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton, which now builds battery packs and electric drive units alongside internal combustion engines. More than two-thirds of supplier spend for the car is directed to UK and European suppliers. Range Rover Electric is expected to be the brand’s most patented model, with around 300 patent applications filed, and each car ships with a Battery Digital Twin providing more than 900 diagnostic data points alongside an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty on the electric propulsion system.
Order books are open now, with Range Rover Electric offered from $138,000 in the US across SE, Autobiography, SV, SV Black and SV Ultra specifications, plus a curated First Edition finished in Belgravia Green, Santorini Black or Varesine Blue. Deliveries will follow on the same flexible architecture that continues to support petrol, hybrid and mild-hybrid Range Rover variants at Solihull.
