Covestro is a world-leading manufacturer of high-tech polymer materials, headquartered in Leverkusen, Germany, with production facilities at sites worldwide and a strong manufacturing and R&D network across Asia, Europe, and the United States.

Originally established as an independent company in 2015 following a spin-off from Bayer AG, Covestro supplies advanced polymer materials — including polycarbonates, polyurethanes, thermoplastic polyurethanes, coatings, adhesives, and specialty films — to industries spanning automotive, electronics, construction, and energy.

For the electric vehicle industry, Covestro’s materials address some of the most demanding challenges in battery packaging, thermal management, and powertrain performance. Its polycarbonate and polycarbonate blend product families — including Makrolon®, Bayblend®, and Makroblend® — are used in EV battery cell holders, enclosures, crash absorbers, busbar carriers, and cooling devices, providing flame retardancy, dimensional stability, and impact resistance across wide temperature ranges.

Thermally conductive Makrolon® TC polycarbonates enable heat dissipation from battery cells and electronic housings while maintaining electrical insulation. The Baysafe® BEF polyurethane encapsulation foam system is specifically developed to limit thermal propagation between battery cells, enhancing safety in high-voltage battery packs.

Covestro is committed to a fully circular economy, with a target of achieving net-zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2035. Its CQ portfolio of circular solutions incorporates recycled and bio-based raw materials across its EV-relevant product lines.
